About the Conference
ALANZ and ALAA are the applied linguistics associations of New Zealand and Australia, respectively. Our first combined conference was held in Auckland in 2009. The idea was to provide an opportunity for applied linguists in New Zealand and Australia to come together, share ideas, and have a good time. Attendees left that first conference invigorated and looking forward to a repeat, which occurred in Canberra in 2011. After that second successful conference, it was New Zealand’s turn to host the event again. It was in Wellington in 2013 that ALTAANZ joined us. After further conferences in Adelaide (2015), Auckland (2017), and Perth (2019), the conference was set to return to Wellington in 2021. A global pandemic interfered with that plan, and the conference will now be in 2022.
We’re also delighted to announce that fourth International Conference on Situating Strategy Use (SSU4) will be run in conjunction with the ALANZ-ALAA-ALTAANZ conference in 2022.
